Several public holidays are expected in the UAE this year, on occasions such as Eid Al Adha, Islamic New Year and National Day. As a result, there will be non-working days in both the private and public sectors.
Eid Al Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the key dates in the Islamic calendar, which honours the willingness of Ibrahim, who is known as Abraham in Jewish and Christian traditions, who sacrificed his son as an act of obedience to God. Thus, Eid Al Adha will fall at the end of June and result in 3 days off from June 28th to June 30th.
Moreover, Day of Arafah, which falls on the 9th day of the lunar month of Dhu al-Hijjah and is the date when Muslim pilgrims go to Mount of Arafah and Plain of Arafah, will be on June 27th. This means that UAE residents will be granted up to 6 days off. The revealed dates allow people to plan holidays in advance to meet with their close ones, go to another emirate or travel to another country. Taking one day off during the period of Eid Al Adha 2023 could result in a 9-day vacation from Saturday June 25th, and going back to work on Monday, July 3rd.
The UAE moon-sighting committee announces the exact dates for the upcoming holidays. In July UAE residents will be granted 3 days off due to the Islamic New Year which will take place on July 21st this year. In September, 3 days of holiday will be given due to Prophet Mohammed’s birthday which takes place on September 29th. On December 2nd and 3rd, UAE private and public sector employees will be granted holidays for the UAE National Day.
